Monaghan Walking Festival


When? Thursday 16th and Friday 17th April.
Where? Monaghan Town and environs.

 


Day by Day breakdown.


Thursday 16th
Registration in The Four Seasons hotel, Monaghan 9.30 - 10.30. Tea/coffee will be available.
Registration costs 15 euro for one day or 25 euro for both days. Registration covers all bus transfers tea and coffee in The Four Seasons and lunch in Slieve Beagh on Friday. The Festival dinner costs 25euro.

Greenway to Rossmore Park leaving The Four Seasons at 10.30. Leaving the hotel, we wend our way via the Greenway and along the Ulster canal to Rossmore Park. At the park there will be a pleasant walk at a leisurely pace and the history of the park will be explained. Walkers have the option of returning to the Four Seasons via the Greenway or bussing back. The Park walk is approximately ninety minutes duration and the Greenway is about forty minutes in each direction. Lunch is available in the Four Seasons or in SAVOIR FAIRE coffee shop.


Walk in Castle Leslie, bus leaves the Four Seasons at 2.30. Walk around Kilvey Lough. This is a gentle walk of about an hour's duration. The ground can be quite soft in places, so wear suitable footwear and watch out for the horses. Tea and coffee is available at the Lodge and a short tour of the grounds and St. Salvador's church will follow the walk, about thirty minutes or so. An alternative walk around Emy Lough will also be available on Thursday afternoon. This is a marked walk on level ground around the lake in Emyvale which takes about fifty minutes to complete.
Bus will return to the hotel about five.
The Festival dinner will be at 7.30 in the Four Seasons. The after-dinner speaker will be Jason Black who recently climbed Everest. To read about Jason's adventures CLICK HERE. The dinner will be followed by some music and dancing.


Day 2 Friday 17th April.
Registration in the Four Seasons 9.30 -10.00. Tea/coffee will be available.
Morning Walk: Crocknagrally Forest. Bus leaves 10.15. This is a medium to difficult walk which takes about two hours. It takes in some beautiful scenery and begins at the dwelling place of the famous Cooneen ghost.

Afternoon Walk: You have a choice now, you can take a guided stroll around Monaghan town where your guides will relate Monaghan's murky past as well as astounding you with details of its architectural gems;
or you can go Orienteering in Rossmore Park following maps at your own pace.
